TRS MPs to protest against injustice to Telangana

Hyderabad: Unhappy with the NDA government for the "injustice" being meted out to Telangana, the TRS has decided to raise the issue in parliament during its winter session.

Telangana Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday met the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MPs to discuss the strategy to be adopted during the session. Those who attended the meeting included Rajya Sabha member K. Keshava Rao and party leader in Lok Sabha Jitender Reddy and MP from Nizamabad K. Kavitha, daughter of the chief minister.

The TRS is unhappy with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for its alleged neglect towards the newly created state. Its MPs have been targeting the BJP-led government for failing to fulfill the promises made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

Kavitha said on Sunday that New Delhi was adopting a step-motherly attitude towards Telangana. She said the chief minister met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2014 and submitted a memorandum with 14 demands but not a single demand was fulfilled.

The MP said the central government had neither announced a special status nor special package to Telangana though 16 months had passed since the birth of the new state.
The TRS is also upset that the NDA government had not allotted a single institute of higher education to Telangana while setting up several institutes in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.

Kavitha pointed out that the state government sought development of 6,000 km of national highways but the centre agreed to sanction only 1,200 km.

The TRS has 10 MPs in the Lok Sabha and if it retains the Warangal seat, the by-election for which was held on Saturday, the tally will go up to 11.
