Rajasthan: The daughter of erstwhile Maharaja of Jaipur, Sawai Bhawani Singh, and BJP MLA from Sawai Madhopur, Diya Kumari filed for divorce from her husband Narendra Singh. According to reports the couple had been living separately for a few months, following which both of them decided to approach the court for divorce under mutual separation under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act.

Narendra Singh, a commoner belonged to a modest family married Diya Kumari in August 1997 after a nine year courtship despite opposition from the Royal family who had opposed their r marriage as both were from same gotra ( common lineage). They married despite the opposition and had two sons and a daughter.

A close associate of Vasundhara Raje , Diya Kumari joined the BJP in September, 2013 in the presence of then Chief Minister of Gujarat ,Narendra Modi and senior leaders including Rajnath Singh . Diya defeated the influential caste leader Kirodi Lal Meena in 2014 , but now at the end of her debut term she had lost her ticket to another candidate, Asha Meena, a former pradhan of Sawai Madhopur and member of the district council for the upcoming assembly election, who was supported by Kirodi Lal Meena .Citing personal reasons she decided not to contest Rajasthan elections this year but the BJP are considering her candidature for the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
