Deadly December For Tamil Nadu

Is December a harrowing and a fateful month for Tamil Nadu? Does Chennai have a jinxed relation with the month of December?

In December last year, rains wreaked a havoc in Chennai turning it into a veritable water world for several weeks. The rains marooned most parts of Chennai, Kanchee puram, Cuddalore, Tiruvallore and Thoothukudi. Last year rains have hit the IT industry too very hard. The city took several months to recover from devastation.

This year again, cyclone and accompanying rains are lashing Chennai and fresh threat of inundation stares Chennai in its face.

Earlier in 2004, killer tsunami stuck Chennai and Tamil Nadu hard. The tsunami left a trail of destruction, death and damage.

It's not just nature that is devastating Tamil Nadu in December, several important leaders too died in December. Among them are charsimatic MGR, C Rajagopala Chary and EV Ramaswami Periar. The latest to pass away in December is Puratchi Thalaivi Jayalalithaa.
