INDIA’S EAST COAST UNDER ATTACK FROM SEA AND SKY, VILLAIN VARDAH SET FOR LAND FALL

  • All East Coasts of India Get Ready for Action Packed Super Cyclone Vardah.
  • Very severe cyclone Vardah landfall to happen during 12 Noon to 5 pm as per current forecast. ‘Vardah’ is expected to cross Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh’s coastal regions. Very heavy rain with wind to lashes coastal Andhra.
  • High alert sounded across the two states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and disaster management teams like NDRF, Indian Navy and Indian Airforce have deployed their units to manage the situation. Heavy rain and winds from Tropical cyclone Vardah have begun to pound the Indian city of Chennai.


  • Damage of huts reported from 4 places in Thiruvallur, 2 places in Villupuram. People living in Ennore and Palaverkadu in Tamil Nadu have been asked to evacuate. The cyclonic storm now about 80 km east of Chennai, according to weather official S Balachandran. "The cyclone is moving westwards direction towards Chennai, likely to cross near Chennai by this afternoon," he says.
  • During the next 36 hours, rainfall would occur at many places over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Chennai, Tiruvallur.
  • Currently, the wind speed is 50-60 kmph and during landfall it will be 100-110 kmph. There would be a storm surge of About 1 mtr height.
  • In view of the approaching storm, the Tamil Nadu Government declares a holiday for educational institutions in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur, besides coastal taluks of Villupuram.
  • All precautions taken at Nuclear Power Plant-Kalpakkam to face Vardah. All well and plant operation normal. Plant is in touch with IMD.
  • As many as 176 relief camps have been set up, nearly 8000 people have reached camps in Tamil Nadu.
  • As many as 25 flights diverted, 9 delayed and 5 cancelled so far from Chennai.
  • Fishermen advised not to venture into sea along and off south Andhra Pradesh, north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts during next 36 hrs. General public asked to stay indoors.
  • Four teams have been deployed in Nellore. "We are fully equipped & prepared,"says Pawan Kumar, Sub Inspector, NDRF. There are six National Disaster Relief Force teams in Andhra Pradesh and eight teams in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
