Hyderabad: A 35-year-old man allegedly hanged his two kids and then slit their throats after his wife left him.

The horrific incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday at Bombay Colony near RC Puram. According to the sources, the man suspected that his wife was involved in an extra-marital affair and that the children were not his kids.

The police informed that the accused, Devaraya Kumar on Tuesday met his wife D Sirisha who had been staying at her parent's residence at Chinna Kanjarla of Patancheru.

Unable to deal with her husband's harassment, Sirisha left home a month ago and despite several requests from him, she denied to return home.

The three children - Sharanya (4), Akhil (6) and Malleshwari (10) were asleep on Wednesday around 1 am when a drunk Devaraya hanged Akhil from the ceiling and then slit his throat. He then proceeded to do the same with his youngest daughter, Sharanya. However, as both the kids were gagged, Malleshwari was unaware of what was happening in the house. After killing two of his kids, Devaraya then went out for a smoke and returned to kill his eldest daughter.

While he attempted to slit her throat, Malleshwari managed to escape him with an injury on her neck. She ran out of their house and alerted the neighbours immediately. The police, who were informed and Devaraya was arrested on Wednesday. He was remanded to judicial custody after being charged under Section 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.

Upon investigation, the police found out that Devaraya used to suspect his wife's fidelity and harassed her in this regard. He used to get intoxicated and physically assault his kids and wife, which forced her to leave. While Sirisha took the kids to her parent's house as well, Devaraya forcibly took the children back and kept them in his custody.
