Triple Talaq For Being Late.......

Etah, Uttar Pradesh: A Muslim women hailing from Etah in Uttar Pradesh, was given Triple Talaq by her husband for returning home late by 10 minutes. It has only been weeks since making triple talaq a criminalized offense has been passed in the Lok Sabha, but even that could not stop an incident of this sort.

According to the woman, she was not permitted to pay a visit to her mother’s house, but she pleaded with her husband stating she will be back in 30 minutes.

The victim added, "I went to meet my sick grandmother, who is at my mother’s house. I was asked by my husband to be back in half-an-hour.  However, I turned up late only by 10 minutes. Later my husband contacted me through my brother’s phone and repeated "talaq" thrice, she added.

The woman opened up about her in-laws and said that they physically assaulted her regularly for not meeting their dowry demands. Apparently, the victim had to go through an abortion because of this issue.

The women added that she comes from a poor background and wasn’t able to meet the demands of her in-laws. Later she requested the government to help her or else she was considering suicide.

The victim had complained about the incident to the police and an investigation is on the husband and his family. Lok Sabha passed the bill on 27 December, making the practice of Triple Talaq a punishable offense with three-year imprisonment to the committing person.
