CPI to submit suggestions to Shinde on AP division

The CPI will submit a list of suggestions and demands to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who is heading a Group of Ministers on division of Andhra Pradesh. A delegation of CPI leaders would meet Shinde this month-end in Delhi, CPI state secretary K Narayana said here today.

Alleging that the ruling Congress made inconsistent statements on division of Andhra Pradesh, the party has demanded that the GoM invite representatives from recognised political parties in Andhra Pradesh to dispel the fears and doubts being raised over the process.
AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, incharge of Congress affairs in AP, says division is inevitable. But Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy says he will stop the division of the state. Digvijay Singh had earlier said the issue would come to the Legislative Assembly twice. But now he is saying it may not come to the Assembly. All this is leading to confusion and fears, Narayana said.
He was briefing on the resolutions made in the CPI's state executive meeting held here yesterday. The CPI demanded, among other things, a statutory council for development of backward Rayalaseema region and priority for Andhra Pradesh in allocation of gas from KG Basin. For Telangana, the GoM should try to implement the gas-based power plants at Nedunuru in Karimnagar district and at Shankerpalli in Ranga Reddy district. In the backward north-coastal Andhra region, a railway division should be set up with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters and the irrigation projects in the region, which could not be taken up due to objections from neighbouring Odisha, should now be completed.
The Centre should establish the new capital at an appropriate place and also grant central universities, reputed educational institutions, research centres and major health facilities in the new Andhra Pradesh, the CPI demanded.
