YS Jagan's Deeksha on May 16, 17, 18 for AP's riparian rights

Strongly protesting against the injustice being meted to the Andhra Pradesh through illegal water diversion from Krishna and Godavari, YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would undertake a three-day fast on May 16, 17 and 18 at Kurnool.

Disclosing this at a media conference at the Lotus Pond on Saturday, YS Jagan said that the fast is in protest against the illegal diversion of water through Dindi, Palamoor and Rangareddy projects and the failure of Chandrababu Government in protecting the interests of the people of the lower riparian regions.
He demanded that his deeksha is aimed at protecting the interests of the Krishna and Godavari delta regions and demanded that the Centre constitute Krishna and Godavari board to ensure the equitable distribution of each drop of water.
"Andhra Pradesh cannot be deprived of its right to drinking water. Keeping silent on this issue is criminal. Chandrababu Naidu is doing exactly that,"YS Jagan said.
He said the special category state is now sought to be buried. While the Centre is now saying that Andhra Pradesh cannot get special status, the TDP is not even protesting against it by withdrawing its ministers from the Central Cabinet. This criminal conspiracy of silence is badly hitting the interests of the state, he pointed out.
A special status state will have 90 per cent grant component, while non-status states will have only 30 per cent grant component. The special status states also enjoy excise, customs, corporate tax and income tax concessions. If there is a special status for AP, it would mean that there would be special AIDB support for irrigation projects like Polavaram, Galeru Nagari, Veligonda. Vizag city will also get Metro rail project, YS Jagan pointed out.
Senior party leaders Ummareddy Venkateswarlu and Balineni Srinivas Reddy were also present.
