Siddipet: In a tragic incident, a 28-year-old woman who married her boyfriend after 10 years of relationship allegedly committed suicide after getting married with her lover last week. She took the extreme step as her husband started torturing her after marriage as it was a second marriage for her. The woman got married to another person eight years ago, but divorced her husband after a short while.

According to police, Ummenthala Madhavi and Katkuri Srinivas were in love with each other for the past 10 years. This was Madhavi's second marriage. She was married to a man eight years ago and had got divorce within six months after marriage as she is already in love with Srinivas. After getting divorce, the duo eloped and married in a temple on May 12 and later they sought police help for convincing their parents. The police called their parents, counselled them and sent the girl to the husband's home. However, the boy's parents had not received her well and even her lover turned husband had started harassing her.

The husband had taken her to Hyderabad in the pretext of Group-2 coaching and would torture her. Madhavi had written a four-page letter to submit to police stating that her husband and in-laws would harass her repeatedly. But she had failed to submit. Unable to bear the torture Madhavi consumed pesticide and committed suicide at government Degree College in Siddipet on July 15. She was taken to hospital and where she died on Monday while undergoing treatment.

The police registered case and recovered the four-page letter. After reading the letter, the deceased family members staged protest in front of the hospital demanding the arrest of Srinivas and his family.
