New Delhi: Will Vijay Mallya be extradited to India? The question has long been haunting the people and government in India. The Supreme Court on Tuesday held liquor baron Vijay Mallya guilty of contempt on plea by consortium of banks. The court asked Mallya to appear before it on July 10.

The Consortium of Banks had moved the Supreme Court seeking contempt proceedings against Mallya after the latter received 40 million dollars from British firm Diageo Plc in February last year.

Mallya, who is currently taking shelter in England and he had fled from India, was summoned by a local court in England following the Indian government's pursuance to extradite him to India. Although he is arrested, he immediately secured bail.

In March, 2016, the Supreme Court was told that Vijay Mallya has offered to pay Rs 4,000 crore to settle outstanding dues to consortium of 13 banks headed by the SBI following loses in Kingfisher Airlines.

The Counsel appearing for Mallya had told the court that the liquor baron offered another Rs 2,000 crore that he expects to get if he wins his suit against multinational General Electric.
