Started PMSing But No Sight of Periods?

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a group of signs and indications that occur in women between her period and ovulation. This typically happens to women every month in the form of physical and psychological changes like slight mood swings, cravings, breast tenderness, pimples, sleeplessness, fatigue or even loss of mental focus.

PMS usually seen in women who have sedentary lifestyles, no physical activity, indulge in smoking, consume excess alcohol, have erratic sleep cycles and are under a lot pressure or stress.

PMS usually indicates that the period is near and starts happening two weeks before it is about to arrive. But also there are days when this Premenstrual Syndrome is not followed by a period where in this phenomenon tends to a lot of girls alarming, dreading and fearing as absence of periods could also be a reason to their Pregnancy.

There are a numerous reasons for why women who are PMS-ing but don’t encounter periods which have been explained by Dr. Rita Bakshi, Senior Gynaecologist and Founder, International Fertility Centre.

Nutritional Deficiencies

Excessive weight gains or weight loss can be recognised as nutritional deficiencies in a woman’s body which can greatly affect her menstrual cycle. For a girl’s menstrual cycle to be healthy and maintained, she must ensure she takes proper diet which includes green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, pulses and citrus fruits. Facing period symptoms without having a period can happen when your hormones become imbalanced due to a poor diet, excessive caffeine, or heavy drinking.

Stress - Physical and Mental

Physical or Mental Strain can adversely affect one’s hormones and can have a negative impact on their health and this condition might be called as amenorrhea, where the periods are likely to be missed and irregular. Stress can throw a woman’s hormone levels off and result in severely upsetting the menstruation process. Women should avoid taking too much tension and hassle as it can be very distressing for their body.

Anaemia

Anaemia is common problem seen among women of reproductive age where in they have dropped levels of iron in their body. This is due to not consuming enough iron-rich foods or iron supplements in their diets. If a women’s body doesn’t have sufficient and adequate amount of iron, then it might just bring the menstruation cycle process to a halt. Deficiency of iron in your body can cause unnecessary fatigue, headache, and dizziness.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Irregular periods, unwanted hair growth, weight fluctuations, facial acne and mood swings are some reasons for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in a woman’s body. These are natural body chemicals or hormonal changes with enlarged ovaries and small cysts on the outer edges which obstruct the proper flow and cycle of menstruation. The increased Androgens also influence their cycles adversely.

Contraceptive Pills and Birth Controls

Any form of Birth Control is affects the hormones which eventually results in disturbing the menstrual cycle. Consuming contraceptive pills, has harmful side effects and can make a woman miss her periods while still having the symptoms that typically come before. It is very essential for women to control the extended use of such pills, avoid having unprotected sex and stop consumption of birth control.
