Actor Vidya Balan is contracted dengue and has been advised complete bed-rest for one month by her doctors while actor Shahid Kapoor was served notices for breeding the masquitoes.

Mumbai: Actor Vidya Balan who recently returned from a film shoot in the United States, has been diagnosed with dengue on Friday and the doctors have advised her complete bed rest for at least a month. And officials from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have also served notices to actor Shahid Kapoor, who lives in the same apartment but two floors below Vidya’s floor, for breeding the mosquitoes in his defunct swimming pool and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000.

After conducting a thorough inspection of VIdya’s sea-facing residence, Praneta Apartments at Juhu area, the BMC offcials also sent similar notice to another person in the same apartment for breeding the aedes aegypti mosquito causing dengue.

BMC insecticide officer Rajan Naringrekar said, “On the upper floor, one breeding ground was found in a plastic flowerpot and another under a tarpaulin cover, put up for the monsoon, on an attached terrace. The ground-floor breeding spot was inside a defunct swimming pool in which rainwater had accumulated, creating favourable conditions for mosquitoes to breed.” Naringrekar added that both offenders will soon receive notices for failing to keep tabs on the breeding grounds.

The BMC has sent more than 18,000 notices to homes and offices in which it found mosquito breeding spots and also warned people to keep an eye on water accumulation in their surroundings as areas with stagnant water could quickly turn into mosquito breeding grounds. For last 11 days, as many as 1,500 people had contracted dengue in Mumbai, said the officials.
