Vijayawada: Tensions prevailed in parts of Vijayawada after the late Congress leader and Kapu icon Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga's statue was vandalized by unidentified persons on Saturday night. The statue installed in the heart of the city at Singh Nagar years ago was found broken with its head part fallen on the ground on Sunday morning.
As the news spread like wildfire, Vangaveeti's followers reached the place and staged a protest against the incident. They demanded that the culprits traced and punished immediately. As they were trying to reinstal the statue on the same spot, police prevented them and assured them that the miscreants will be traced at the earliest.
Ranga's son, YSRCP leader Vangaveeti Radha visited the spot and warned the culprits of serious consequences. "If they are caught by the police, it's their luck. If they are caught by Vangaveeti's fans, it's their end," Radha said and lashed out at the TDP for such incidents under its government.
