Hyderabad: As past track record showed casualties due to hoardings, billboards and unipoles falling off in the monsoon season, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has banned all types of hoardings for two months as a preventive step.

The ban comes into effect from June 15 to August 15.

It may be recalled that there have been instances where flexes attached to hoardings had fallen off on Metro rail tracks causing services disruption.

To deal with emergencies, 300 disaster management teams have been formed huring heavy rains and gales. Also, a greater coordination is called for among GHMC, water board, police and TS Transco, GHMC commissioner told Times of India.

Metro officials complain that although there is a ban, few advertising companies continue putting up flexes illegally.

The GHMC also demolished 11 dilapitated buildings and sealoed one house. The own planning wing has identified 750 dilapitated structures and issued notices to the house owners.
