Shloka Mahesh Strikes Gold Again at Yachting Association's National Regatta

Balancing Academics and Passion: Shloka Mahesh's Inspiring Story

Shloka Mahesh, a 17-year-old sailor from Hyderabad, Telangana, won Gold again with her team at the Yachting Association of India's Unifi Offshore National Regatta 2024. About 40 sailors from various sailing clubs nationwide, like CRPF, INWTC Mumbai, Royal Madras Yacht Club, USC, participated in the 5-day event from May 1st to 5th at RMYC.

They are the first civilian team to win the title since 2021. After qualifying races, RMYC-Enore was first, CRPF second, and Royal Madras Yacht Club third. The teams were split into Gold and Silver fleets. The Gold fleet sailed over 100km to Mahabalipuram and back in hot weather with strong winds and 2-meter-high waves, challenging the sailors.

Shloka Mahesh, sharing her experience, said, "This was my first offshore National Regatta after the 2023 World Championship in Baiona, Spain, with my team. We work well together, and I feel lucky to be part of this winning team. It's great to be the first civilian team since 2021 to be Offshore National Champions."

She thanked the Royal Madras Yacht Club and Yachting Association of India and hopes to compete in more Regattas. Shloka, a 12th-grade student at Meridian School, Banjara Hills, aims to take her NEET exam in 2025. She finds balancing year-round training with academics challenging, especially after scoring over 90% in her 10th board exams. Sailing is her passion and helps her grow personally.
