Hyderabad: Traffic movement came to a halt in the city during the rush hour on Monday morning after a truck loaded with cartons of beer bottles turned turtle near Begumpet. Already prone to traffic jams, the route connecting Paradise and Punjagutta is one of the busiest in Hyderabad with thousands of commuters traveling to and from work.

According to the traffic authorities, the incident occurred near the Hyderabad Public School when the truck was heading towards Paradise junction. Commuters sustained minor injuries as their vehicles skid in an attempt to avoid the truck which was falling over.

Shortly after the accident, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) deployed its special Disaster Response Force (DRF) to divert the traffic and clear the obstruction on the road. While the beer bottles which were not damaged in the mishap were transferred to another vehicle, a crane service was utilized to lift the track. Meanwhile, the officials are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Just a week ago, a truck carrying several hundred beer bottles, caught fire near Nandyal in Kurnool district of the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh. According to the Nandyal Prohibition and Excise department, 1,300 cartons carrying 15,600 bottles were gutted in the incident, resulting in the loss of goods worth Rs 15 lakh and the vehicle was also destroyed completely in the fire.
