The Supreme Court today declined to grant bail to YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and asked the CBI to expeditiously complete the inquiry in the quid pro quo case.

Jagan moved the bail plea before the apex court on September 14 and later it was adjourned to September 28 on the request of the CBI. Subsequently, the CBI changed its counsel twice and last time the agency’s lawyer wanted the case be adjourned as he did not to the court prepared. Hence, the court had adjourned the case to today.

Totally dismissing the CBI argument, Jagan’s counsel Gopala Subrahmanyam told the Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai that the agency could not produce any proof to support the case and that Jagan had been in jail for the past 132 days and that he deserved to be granted bail. The court, however, did not agree with Jagan’s counsel and dismissed his petition saying “you will have to wait.”

Agreeing with the CBI counsel seeking more time to probe the case, the court directed the agency to file all the relevant information in their next charge-sheet and made it clear that it should be a final one. The agency is also directed to complete the whole the process expeditiously.

The CBI counsel submitted to the court that the agency did not waste even a single day during the enquiry and that it needs more time to probe the investments made in certain foreign countries.

The apex court told the Jagan counsel to come before it with a bail a petition after the investigation in the case is complete.
