Candle light protests were organised on Monday across the state against illegal detention of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for one year.

The YSR Congress party called for state-wide protests to mark Jagan’s one year in jail as he was arrested on the midnight of May 27 last year. Hundreds of supporters and activists of YSR Congress assembled at the main thoroughfares in the towns and cities and protested with candle lights from 6 pm. Silent rallies were taken out in mandal, constituency and district quarters.

In YSR Kadapa: Women in large numbers took out a rally with candles from MRO office to YSR Statue at Proddutur in YSR Kadapa district. Under the auspices of former MLA Govinda Reddy, Jagan’s supporters organised a rally at Badvel in YSR Kadapa district. A rally was taken out from Gandhi statue at Pulivendula in YSR Kadapa district. E C Gangi Reddy, Y S Konda Reddy, Y S Manohar Reddy, Y S Avinash Reddy, Y S Bhaskar Reddy, Y S Madhu and others led the rally.

In Kurnool: A candle rally was organised in Kurnool under the leadership of Gouru Venkata Reddy, Sobha Nagi Reddy and Bhuma Nagi Reddy.

In Anantapur: Women and students in large numbers voluntarily participated in the candle rally in Anantapur under the leadership of MLA Gurunatha Reddy.

In Guntur: A candle rally was held at Arandalpet in Guntur district, Marri Rajasekhar and Ambati Ramababu led the rally and thousands of party workers and sympathizers took part in the rally.

In Prakasam : YSRCP workers organised a rally at Parchuru, Chirala and other places. They demanded immediate release of Jagan from jail.

In Chittoor: Rallies and prayers of all religions marked the day of protests in Chittoor, Tirupati and Srikalahasti. District convenor Narayana Swamy organised the protest processions.

In Medak: YSRCP held rallies with candles at Sangareddy, Zaheerabad and Medak.

In Nalgonda: A candle rally was taken up from Ramagiri Chourastha to Clock Tower under the aegis of YSR Congress.

In Khammam: A silent protest was organised from Pavilion grounds in Khammam under the leadership of Matsa Srinivas, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

In East Godavari: A candle protest was organisedat Jaggampet, Samarlakota, Kakinada, Rajahmundry in East Godavari protesting against the illegal detention of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Thota Subbarayudu and Jyothula Nehru and others led the programme.

In Vizianagaram: A rally was taken out with candle lights from Kota Junction to Municipal office. Penmatsa, Sujayakrishna, Rangarao, Nehru, Avanapu Vijay and others participated.

In Srikakulam: YSRCP workers in huge numbers participated in the silent candle rally taken out from RTC complex.
