Dr Sr Alphonsa Vattoly, Principal of St Francis College for Women, Begumpet laid down her office on May 1. In order to celebrate her 27 years of dedicated teaching, students of St. Francis college have organized a farewell event.

The event began with a guard of honor for Sister where all students welcomed her with flowers from the college gate to the auditorium. The Sister was felicitated by the teaching , non teaching and the alumni. The highlight of the event was a humble attempt by the students to dedicate a dance describing and portraying the three qualities of sister; dynamic, eloquence of speech and optimism.

A video of students and teachers expressing their gratitude and respect towards Sister was exhibited. The event ended with an emotional speech by Sister who shared her experiences of being a student in the college, and then taking over as Principal.

Sr Alphonsa brought in a lot of changes during her tenure of office. Notable among them are introduction of new courses like B.Com. IPP, B.Sc. Nutrition and M.Sc. Finance, addition of an entire floor to the existing building and renovation of all the laboratories in the college. Under her guidance, research became the new mantra, and over 20 teachers were motivated to acquire their Ph.D. degree. Sr Alphonsa firmly believed in women's empowerment through education and introduced a number of courses to build self-confidence and self-reliance among the students. The college won several awards in Sports and her efforts in this direction culminated in the construction of an indoor stadium, the best of its kind in Hyderabad. During her term as the Principal, the college witnessed a notable increase in the number of students, both in undergraduate and postgraduate courses
