Narayana Student Suicide: Telangana Govt Warns Colleges Against Withholding Students' Certificates

20 Aug, 2022 15:11 IST

The Telangana government has warned junior college management over withholding original certificates and non-refund of fees to students who have completed or discontinued their courses.

A circular issued by the Telangana government stated that it is the college principal's responsibility to ensure issue all the original certificates to the student who's leaving college. This comes a day after a student leader set himself ablaze, leading to an accidental fire at Narayana College Ramanthapuram, Hyderabad on Friday.

Many reports have popped up of colleges withholding certificates of students whose fees are due and those who may have discontinued courses at the time of graduation. The circular also directed District Officers to inspect all private junior colleges to ensure that management does not withhold any student's certificates for any reason. Any such complaint should be directed to the relevant DIEO or the TSBIE. The board also retains the right to take strict action against college administrations if they are found to violate the TSBIE's prescribed rules, regulations, and guidelines.
