Azamgarh: 'Dead' Man Who Came Back To Life To Remarry Wife: Details Inside

Everyone knows about the film, Kaagaz, right! The movie was based on the real life story of Lal Bihari Mritak who made news when he fought a long battle to prove he was alive. Lal Bihari Mritak, a farmer who struggled for 18 years to get corrected the official records in which he was declared dead in 1976.

Now, the news is that Mritak is planning to remarry his 56-year-old wife Karmi Devi because it has been 27 years since he turned up alive again in government records. On June 30th, 1994, he was declared alive.

Lal Bihari speaking to reporters said that, "I was reborn in government records 27 years ago. The marriage ceremony will be held in 2022 when I will turn 28 after my rebirth in government records."

He further added that, "I fought and won my case, but no great change took place in the system. For 18 years, I was listed as "dead" in government records."

He said that there are people who have been declared dead and their land has been seized by their relatives in collusion with government officials. He asserted that he has been helping such victims for many days and the campaign would continue.

In 1975, Lal Bihari, a resident of Amilo village in the Azamgarh district, was declared dead. During his legal battle to reclaim his identity, he added ‘Mritak' (dead) to his name. He even founded a Mritak Sangh to highlight incidents like this. Mritak has three children, two daughters and one son who are now married.
