Andhra Govt Begins Fever Survey Amid Covid Scare

19 Dec, 2023 16:35 IST|Sakshi Post

Amaravati: Following the advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry over the recent upsurge in Covid-19 cases and detection of the JN.1 variant, the Andhra Pradesh government has introduced preventive measures across the state.

As part of this preventive mechanism, the state health department has initiated a door-to-door fever survey to detect suspected Covid cases in the state. In the wake of resurgence of Covid-19 infection in the neighbouring state Karnataka, MT Krishna Babu, Special Chief Secretary, Health Medical & Family Welfare on Tuesday held a review meeting with the officials of the health department. He directed the officials to make the Rapid Antigen self test kits and necessary medicine available at the village level clinics across the state.

It’s worth mentioning here that the state government took comprehensive measures during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. The government ensured the availability of 40,000 beds with oxygen supply in the hospitals across the state. Not to mention that the medical staff conducted over 60,000 Covid tests daily.

As the Covid infection is slowly spreading in several states, the Centre has issued a directive to the state governments to monitor and report district-wise influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory illness cases in all health facilities on a regular basis to detect and arrest the early rising trend of cases in the country. India’s first case of JN.1 variant was detected in Kerala on December 8 in an octogenarian woman.
