In less than a year after YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. The whole world was reeling under the impact of Coronavirus - innumerable people lost their lives in the country and the national lockdown snatched away the livelihood of the majority of the population.

Andhra Pradesh also reported several Covid positive cases but due to the effective handling of the viral situation by the YS Jagan administration, the state reported the lowest mortality rate in the country. A combination of proven methodologies, together with innovative strategies helped tackle COVID-19 outbreak.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been praised for his pro-people initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Jagan has continued to provide welfare to the people of Andhra Pradesh without any delay or a break. Amid the worsening humanitarian crisis due to spread of virus in the state, the chief minister took a decisive step to mitigate the economic burden of the people and directed the officials to ensure free treatment for Covid-19 patients including black fungus or mucormycosis in all empanelled hospitals under the YSR Aarogyasri scheme which helped saving the lives of lakhs of poor people during the crisis.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Chief Ministers of different states have praised the efforts of the YS Jagan-led AP government for its fight against the COVID-19. Recently, popular Tollywood heroine Poonam Kaur heaped praises on CM YS Jagan saying the YSRCP government’s welfare schemes have been a great help for the people during the pandemic in the state.

Actor-turned-activist Poonam Kaur is actively researching ways to sustain handlooms. In 2018, she was made the brand ambassador of handlooms for Andhra Pradesh. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kaur praised the YSRCP (government) for its initiatives to the weavers during pandemic.
