The Hyderabad Connect To Surgical Strike 2

Hyderabad: The retaliation act for the Pulwama attack by the Indian Air force in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, has pushed the Josh factor a notch higher amongst Indians.

With more information coming out as to how a group of 10 Mirage 2000s, dropped 1000kg bombs on the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camps in Balakot, Muzaffarabad and Chakori, another interesting information was reported in TOI about the fighter pilots of the Mirage squadrons who were a part of the surgical strike.

The fighter pilots of Mirage squadrons who hit terror camps in Pakistan on Tuesday were initially trained at the Air Force Academy at Dundigal and their fighter training program was completed at Hakimpet Air Station in Hyderabad.

After one year's training, officer cadets are commissioned into various branches of the India Air Force.

Their curriculum at Dindigul provides a common ground where a foundation is laid to prepare them for the different tasks, which are intrinsic to the modern air force. It is here that cadets are trained to learn flying through successive stages.

Those who pass out as fighter pilots get the opportunity to serve in the front-line combat squadrons equipped with SU-30, MiG-29, MiG-27, MiG-23, MiG-21, Mirage-2000 and Jaguar aircraft.

Dundigal academy located 25 Kms from Hyderabad was established in October 1967. Basic and applied training is given to the IAF cadets at Dindigul and Hakimpet.

Operational training is given in places like Adampur and Pathankot for fighter pilots for Mirages. The experienced combat pilots undergo specialised training as fighter combat leaders -for interception and air combat or fighter strike leaders- for ground attack.
