Pakistan on Wednesday morning claimed that it had shot down two aircraft of the Indian Air Force which according to their defence forces violated Pakistani airspace. After this, Pakistan claimed that one of the jets had fallen in Pakistan occupied Kashmir while the other fell down in J&K.

Pakistan later released a video in which a blindfolded pilot identifies himself as Wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman of the IAF and mentions his service number. In the video, he is seen asking if he is being captured by the Pakistan authorities and later refuses to answer questions.

The IAF has confirmed that one of its pilots has gone missing. Pakistan Army spokesperson who has been active on Twitter giving updates of their retaliatory attacks released the video after a brief press conference.

IAF has confirmed that Abhinandan is a MiG 21 Bison pilot. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said; "India had informed about counter terrorism (CT) action it took yesterday (Tuesday) against a training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Pakistan based on credible evidence that JeM intended to launch more attacks. Against this Counter Terrorism Action, Pakistan has responded this morning by using its Air Force to target military installations on the Indian side. Due to our high state of readiness and alertness, Pakistan’s attempts were foiled successfully."

He also added "The Pakistan Air Force was detected and the Indian Air Force responded instantly. In that aerial engagement, one Pakistan Air Force fighter aircraft was shot down by a MiG 21 Bison of the Indian Air Force. The Pakistani aircraft was seen by ground forces falling from the sky on the Pakistan side. In this engagement, we have unfortunately lost one MiG 21. The pilot is missing in action. Pakistan has claimed that he is in their custody. We are ascertaining the facts."

The ISI Public Relations officer Ghafoor also stated that the Indian pilots in their captivity were being treated well. One of the injured pilots is undergoing treatment at a hospital in an undisclosed location in Pakistan.

The wing commander sporting the Indian military uniform, who is bleeding in his nose, is seen stating that he is a flying pilot and that his service number is 27981.

When prompted to reveal more details, Wing Commander Abhinandan says he is not allowed to give out any more information. Later he is seen asking if he has been captured by the Pakistan Army.
