Mirage 2000 Specifications: The Jets That Hit JeM Terror Camps With Precision

On Tuesday Morning, India launched multiple strikes at the Jaish e Mohammad (JeM) terror camps across the Line of control (LOC) in Pakistan’s Balakot, Chakoti and Muzaffarabad regions.

This was considered the first airstrike across the borders in 5 decades. Leading this attack was a group of 10 Mirage 2000 fighter jets.

The Mirage 2000 is one of India’s most versatile fighter jet put into action to counter US Purchased Pakistan’s F-16 which is nicknamed Vajra. Vajra means a thunderbolt in Sanskrit.

Dassault Aviation is a French company that produces these single-engine fighter aircraft. They also manufacture the Rafale, the purchase of which has put India in a spot.

It was the Mirage 2000 that helped turn the tide for India during the Kargil War in 1999. The mirage got a complete overhaul in 2015 with a number of plug-and-play systems.

In 2015, the Mirage gained a new radar capable of long-range enemy tracking even though the IAF used Laser-Guided bombs during the Kargil war itself.

The Mirage 2000 has nine hard points for carrying weapon system payloads: five on the fuselage and two on each wing. The single-seat version can also be armed with two internally mounted, high-firing-rate 30mm guns.

The plane has a length of 14.36 m with a total span of 9.13 m and is capable of Mach 2.2 at high altitude.
