Mysoora Reddy cites unfinished water projects to oppose Telangana

Leaders from Rayalaseema region opposing the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh have expressed apprehensions that creation of Telangana will render the region arid.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) in July approved carving out of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. Proponents of united Andhra feel if the state is divided, the fate of the proposed projects for catering to the irrigation needs of Rayalaseema will remain uncertain. The projects include surplus Krishna river water comprising Galeru-Nagiri, Handri-Neeva phase I and II.

Former MP and YSR Congress Central Committee member M.V.Mysoora Reddy said, the state of Telangana can be formed with seven districts, keeping Krihna basin as one state to avoid inter-state water disputes and internal water wars.
The CWC proposal mentions that Telangana will have ten districts.

Another leader Ch. Chandrasekhar Reddy said recent interim judgement by Brijesh Mishra tribunal preventing Andhra Pradesh from utilising allocated surplus water of 145 MCFT, has put the fate of all proposed irrigation projects across river Krishna based in jeopardy. Another proposal mulls trifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, making Rayalaseems as a separate state.

Strident protests are on in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions--collectively known as Seemandhra region--against the proposed division of the state.
