Mumbai Flooded With Incessant Rains, Life Comes To Grinding Halt

Rail and road services came to a grinding halt with heavy downpour

Mumbai: Heavy rains on Sunday brought Mumbai to a standstill and rail and road services came to a grinding halt. The Skymet Weather officials said that heavy rain in parts of Maharashtra has been attributed to a cyclonic circulation currently present over the Gujarat region.

"We have also issued warnings for extremely heavy rain at isolated locations in the district. Mumbai too, can expect extremely heavy rains,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general, western region, India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Due to strong winds in the coastline fishermen have been warned not to venture into sea.

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Talasari in Palghar district recorded 470mm rain, which was the highest in the state. The downpour led to water-logging in Kalyan and Bhiwandi areas of the district.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon moved to southern parts of Gujarat which witnesses heavy showers on Sunday. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, the 194 mm rainfall in Valsad district was the highest in the state. Several areas in Dangs, Navsari, Surat, Narmada and Bharuch districts in south Gujarat were also lashed by heavy rains. The Met department has forecast "heavy to very heavy rainfall" in south Gujarat region in the next four days. on Colors channel on July 9 from 1pm.
