Man With Stolen Audi Nabbed In Guntur

Hyderabad: A man, who fled with an Audi Q3 car under the pretext of test drive here last month was arrested in Guntur on Thursday by the Banjara Hills police.

Posing as a doctor at Apollo Hospitals the accused S Venkata Ramana (35) approached a pre-owned car dealer Narendra Kumar at Yousufguda on October 27. He took the car for a test drive along with the dealer's driver. After driving the car for few distance the accused asked the driver to get off saying he wanted to go alone, but later he fled off with the car.

Police said that the accused is an M Tech graduate and stole the car to show his girlfriend in Guntur. During investigation it was revealed that his modus operandi is to pose himself as son or relative of prominent political persons and introduce himself as a doctor to automobile dealers.

Many had fallen into his trap as the accused was fluent in English and reportedly he had also moved closely with daughters of two former Union ministers.

DCP Venkateswar Rao said, "He used to spend money lavishly by betting on horses or party with women. Apart from horse racing, he was also involved in cricket betting."

The accused is a native of East Godavari and a resident of Bengaluru and till date he has stolen 40 cars. The offender started his crime career in 1999, who has string of cases registered against him in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh

A case under section 379 (theft) of IPC has been registered against him. He has been produced in court and has been sent to judicial custody.
