Khammam: An extra-marital affair with father-in-law claimed life of a woman in Khammam district on Saturday.

According to the police, Banothu Veeranna (40) of Erravadu village in Bonakal mandal in the district had developed extra-marital affair with his daughter-in-law Anitha (25).

The family members came to know about the relationship between Veeranna and Anitha and severely reprimanded them. The duo were even warned by the family elders since the family would lose face in the locality.

Two months ago, both of them eloped to Chennai with gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakhs in cash. The family members lodged a complaint with the police over their going missing.

After spending two months in Chennai, Veeranna and Anitha decided to return home on Friday as they ran out of money.

Afraid of losing face in the family, they decided to commit suicide at Manchugodu village of Raghunathapalem mandal in the district. They consumed rat poison and slashed their wrists with knife.

After being noticed by the villagers, both were shifted to a hospital. Anitha was declared brought dead while Veeranna was unconscious and underwent treatment. He is now out of danger.

The police registered a case and launched investigation.
