Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has directed the state police not to arrest Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar and five others till June 11 in the Chengicherla clashes incident

A single bench headed by Justice K Lakshman issued the order on Thursday. The bench also asked the police to file a counter-affidavit in the case. Bandi Sanjay and five others had filed two criminal petitions seeking to quash the FIRs lodged against them in the Chengicherla incident.

Two FIRs were registered at different police stations in Rachakonda police commissionerate. The BJP leader and others have been accused of obstructing the police in discharging their official duties during a clash between two communities. Bandi Sanjay and others forcibly removed barricades set up by the police, according to a complaint lodged by the police official.

The BJP leader has denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the accusation as “politically motivated”. It may be recalled here that the clash occurred between the two communities at Pittalbasthi in Chengicherla on March 27.
