Nearly 1,500 madrassas celebrated Independence Day across the state.

Hyderabad: Jamiat-e-Ulama, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (JUTAP), a body of Islamic clerics on Monday said that nearly 1,500 madrassas celebrated Independence Day across the state.

“Celebrations and hoisting of the tricolor was performed at all district offices of the Jamiat-e-Ulama, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” said Khaleeq Ahmed Sabir, JUTAP general secretary.

Just like schools, madrassas also celebrated the Independence Day to familiarize students with freedom struggle, Nazim of madrassas said.

To name few, celebrations took place at Madrassa Tajweed-ul-Quran in Hafez Baba Nagar, the Islamic seminary Ashraful Uloom in Khaja Bagh.

A noted scholar Mufti Abdul Mughni Mazaahiri said that in the country’s freedom struggle Muslims played a pivotal role. He said, “There have been several scholars of Islam who have fought alongside people of other faiths for a free India.”

The National Flag was hoisted at important masjids such as Masjid-e-Zam Zam in Amberpet and Masjid-e-Saleem Kha toon in Himayat Nagar. JUTAP president and former legislator Hafiz Peer Shabbir along with other Muslim clerics were present.
