Jaya to stay in Jail until oct 6, film industry on strike

Bangalore: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa will stay in jail untill October six. The  criminal revision petition for suspension of her sentence and bail was adjourned by the judge of a vacation bench of the Karnataka High Court here on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu film industry expressed solidarity and went on hunger strike in Chennai protesting against arrest of actor turned politician, former Chief Minister.

The hunger strike is being held by associations representing movie producers, actors, directors, distributors and others.

Actors Sarathkumar, Srikanth, Senthil and directors P.Vasu, Vikraman, S.J. Surya and others participated in the protest.

The protest started at 9 a.m and will end at 5 p.m.\In Virudhachalam district, a section of lawyers boycotted courts demanding release of Jayalalithaa from Bangalore Central Jail.Theaters in Chennai will remain shut for a day.

Earlier, a criminal revision petition, has been listed for admission Tuesday before the vacation bench of the Karnataka High Court here.

"The criminal revision petition (CRP) has been listed for admission Tuesday before the vacation bench of Justice Rathnakala," a counsel for Jayalalithaa.

According to AIADMK sources, noted criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani will argue the case seeking suspension of the four-year jail sentence, bail for release of Jayalalithaa from jail, review of the hefty fine (Rs.100 crore) and stay on the conviction.

Meanwhile, A special court here Saturday convicted Jayalalithaa in the Rs.66-crore disproportionate assets' case and sentenced her to four years simple imprisonment, with a fine of Rs.100 crore under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
