Jallikattu, Kodipandem Ban Is North’s Assault On Dakshin Culture: Pawan Kalyan 

Hyderabad: Tollywood's power star and Janasena party president K. Pawan Kalyan on Friday termed the ban imposed on Jallikattu and Kodipandem (cockfight) is a cultural attack perpetrated by the government of India.

"The ban on Jallikattu and Kodipandem imposed by government of India is an attack on Dravida culture and its integrity. This is how it is being viewed in Dakshin Hindustan. I had observed this deep hurt among people of Dakshin Bharat when I was shooting in Pollachi in Tamil Nadu and during my political interactions in Andhra about the ban on their respective cultural events in the recent past," Pawan tweeted on his handle on Friday even as the entire Tamil film industry Kollywood joined the historic Jallikattu protest at Marina beach in Chennai on Friday.

Reasoning the unreasonable ban on Jallikattu, Pawan said, "Imagine how many cows, calves and buffaloes should be slaughtered to get 2.4 million tons of beef! How come this kind of slaughtering is not considered animal cruelty? Just because we don't see it!

Why the animal cruelty act applied only to Jallikattu where the animals getting injured or killed is insignificant when compared to the number of animals that had to be slaughtered for business?" he questioned.

India is the largest exporter of beef in the world; 2.4 million tons of beef and veal was exported by India in 2015, whereas Brazil and Australia could export only two and 1.5 million tons. And beef exports fetch almost Rs35,000 crore with 14 percent growth every year. These top beef exporting firms are owned by Hindus, not Muslims, Pawan Kalyan said.
