India ranked first at the Int’l Physics Olympiad as all five students win medals

Five Indian students that included S N Gowtham Amirthya from Hyderabad were sent to Zurich to participate in the International Physics Olympiad held earlier this month. All five of them came back with medals: three gold and two silver!

This achievement is stated to be India’s second-best performance in 19 years.

Their outstanding performance put India on the top spot among 84 nations. While Hyderabad’s Gowtham Amirthya, Mumbai’s Preey Shahwon and Kolkata’s Debaditya Pramanik won gold medals, Divyansh Garg from Jaipur and and Manan Bhatia from Lucknow won silver medals.

Their combined effort placed India on the top spot at the Zurich Physics Olympiad where 84 nations had come to compete. This achievement is stated to be India’s second-best performance in 19 years.

After the team returned home, they were felicitated at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), a national centre of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
