Mumbai, Sep 11: She has become the first Bollywood actress to walk the ramp at New York Fashion Week, but Sunny Leone reveals in the initial stage of her career, she was called too fat to be a model.

Leone walked the ramp at the coveted fashion week on September 8 and looked resplendent as the showstopper in an ivory Archana Kochhar gown. For the Mastizaade star, walking the ramp was a moment of getting back at her detractors, who never thought she could make it as a model. It was such an amazing feeling. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a model and when I turned 18, I tried. I was told I was too short, too fat, too commercial or they were just not interested, Leone told PTI in an email interview from New York.

The 35-year-old actress opened the show for Kochhar with much applause but admitted that she was scared of tripping on the ramp.

I was so nervous about tripping and falling. Also, this has been a dream for so long, I didn’t believe it was happening. At the show, acid-attack survivor Reshma Qureshi also walked the ramp for the Indian designer, who showcased her collection A Tale of Two Travels.

Leone said while she couldn’t get time to meet other designers, she spent time with Qureshi. I did get a chance to spend time with Reshma Quereshi and she is a doll. I wish her all the best in life and I admire her strength and determination.

The actress is basking in the praise for walking the ramp and said she is not bothered about the fashion police.

The New York Fashion Week commenced on September 8 and will go on till September 15.

First Bollywood Celebrity To Walk In New York Fashion Week

There was much excitement around actress Sunny Leone being the first Bollywood celebrity to walk in the much coveted international fashion event — the New York Fashion Week. Over the years, more and more Indian designers have been showcasing their creations on the global stage and wowing fashion critics and enthusiasts alike. This time around, designer Archana Kochhar brought in an element of Indian beauty to the ramp as well with Sunny Leone and acid attack survivor Reshma Quereshi.

The collection, called A Tale of Two Travels, is inspired by the breathtaking monument of love, the Taj Mahal, along with the rich, buoyant colours of magnificent India representative of the village of Banjara tribals, the designer had explained in a statement before the show. The prints evoked not only the Taj Mahal but the lotus flower and royal elephants.

Silhouettes included bellbottom trousers, cropped tops, capes, and jumpsuits. To offset the colorful embroidery there was a lot of ivory – evoking the ivory marble of the Taj Mahal.

Leone opened the show in a beautiful and vibrant gown — the torso showcasing a riot of colours with ethno-modern motifs with two vertical panels on the front, a nude base and long sleeves with the continuing pattern. The skirt was plain ivory, providing a suitable contrast and allowing the jazzy print on top to really pop.

The Baby Doll actress posted a video of hers walking the ramp on her Facebook page with the caption: Here it is.. Catch me walking the ramp for @ArchanaKochhar at #NYFW16 #SunnyLeone”.
