A bar dancer working in Lisbon Club at Begumpet in Hyderabad was stripped and brutally assaulted by four of her colleagues and a man, on the main road on Friday night. The incident took place in the Punjagutta Police Station limits.

The 25-year-old victim who hailed from Sangadikunta Colony in Guntur district had come to Hyderabad to work in the film industry as a character artist. She was living in Yusufguda and unable to get proper work, she joined the bar as a dancer to make ends meet , five months ago. The victim had two children, a blind father, and mother to support. Initially things were fine, but since a couple of days, the accused and another man named Syed started pressurising her to indulge in prostitution. She made it clear that she was here only to make money and would not do such immoral activities. Angry that she refused to heed to their demands, the accused nursed a grouse against her.

On Friday night at around 1:00 pm after the club closed, they dragged her out on the Begumpet-Somajiguda road, stripped and thrashed her and also cut her with blades. As she was being thrashed, it was the inebriated customers of the pub, who came to her rescue and she managed to call the police. Enraged that she called the police they snatched her phone and smashed it to the ground.

The police arrived later but instead of helping her only noted her details. She was taken to the police station by the customers and those who assaulted her also approached the police.

The victim alleged that the management had brushed aside the incident, saying it happened outside their premises. She alleged that the police showed no sympathy even when she came into the police station in tattered clothes and were being nice to the accused. Apparently, she had approached the Police ten days ago to file a complaint against them, but they refused to entertain her case. The victim who was the sole breadwinner was said that the staff of the club allegedly threatened her not to lodge a complaint, as the owner was a close friend of a senior political leader.

The Lisbon Restobar Facebook page shows the pub owners alongside senior TRS leader T Harish Rao and the pub was launched by popular Telugu actor Varun Sandesh in 2015. The police arrested the four women attackers — Ritika (24), Sweety (20), Rekha25) and Vijaya Reddy (24) — and produced them in court. Another accused Syed Majid Hussain (30) alias Syed is said to be absconding. Cases under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) read with 34, of the IPC.

Punjagutta ACP Tirupathanna said that if her allegations were true that the police hadn't helped her when she filed a case earlier, than a departmental enquiry would be conducted and action would be taken against the errant police officers.
