Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's assurances to the police department regarding the weekly offs has come into effect. Visakha City has kick-started the implementation on Saturday. With the weekly offs coming into force in Vizag and few other cities, the police department are working towards the weekly-off system being implemented across the state.

Within a week of taking power, Chief Minister YS Jagan has implemented the assurance of according weekly off to the police personnel in the state, he made during the elections. DGP D Gautam Sawang formed a committee comprising of 22 senior police officials headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ravishankar Ayyanar on 4th of this month. The committee has been studying the difficulties in implementing the Weeklyoff based on the working and strength of police in all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

On June 10, the committee met DGP Sawang at the Police Headquarters in Mangalgiri where they decided on the implemention of the weekly-off system. It was also concluded that shortage of staff was not a problem. Earlier, Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha issued an order on Saturday, giving the city's 2,147 civil and 850 Armed Reserve police officers a weekly-off.

Weekly Off Implementation:

- For those who work in the Peace Corps, those who are currently in the Morning Shift, Section duties (only eight hours a day) will continue to perform the same procedure of working three days and rest for 36 hours.

- Those who are on general duty, warrants and security are given one day as weekly off with no trouble adjusting to their duties.

- Those who are working in the Traffic department are divided into seven categories for seven days and every category is given a weekly off for a day.

- In the Criminal Investigation Department, staff are divided into seven sections and allotted weekly offs.

- In the Armed Reserve, the Guards and Security Company are given weekly offs as per the situations and needs of the staff.

- Since there are two drivers in a police vehicle, one of them will be given weekly off.
