Hyderabad: Another feather is going to be added to the crown of the Peal City in the name of second biggest Trocolor. The another giant flag after the one at Sanjeevaiah Park, is going to be erected by Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT)- Hyderabad Campus on this Independence day.

The IICT, situated at Habsiguda in Hyderabad is planning to fly a Tricolor measuring 20/30 feet with 100 feet flag mast. The flag is made of synthetic material used for making parachutes.

Sources said the flag mast and the flag which are yet to be transported to the city, will be manufactured by a contractor in Silvasa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and the expenditure is being borne by IICT. The maintenance of the flag is carried out by IICT only from its resources. The officials of IICT, which will be the first to erect such giant flag among all 37 CSIR institutions across the country, said the costing of the flag pole is Rs.20 lakh and they also exuded their confidence that the flagpole would become a landmark in the city being the second tallest.

In another similar development, Telangana government has placed an order to buy a new giant flag from a Dubai company to hoist at the country’s second highest mast erected at Sanjeevaiah Park in Hyderabad for the Independence Day on August 15.

The HMDA authorities are procuring the largest Tricolor from Dubai based Channel Group International and said the company is giving a guarantee of six months from the maintenance and the flag can withstand from the strong winds with high velocity and rains and other obstacles in the weather for at least 25 weeks.

Till now, seven flags have been procured for the highest flag and the new yet to be hoisted Tricolor costs of Rs. 3.2 lakh whereas the previous flags were costing Rs.1.4 lakh. They said the flag would be durable for six months as it has a UV coating which prevents the material from fading and also made of triple yarn that prevents damages caused by gales.
