'Get my wife back to me'

Tirupati's BSR Colony residents were witness to a high drama as a middle-aged person locked himself and his son and threatened to commit self-immolation if he was not united with his Kuwait-based wife.

Karunakar, a resident of BSR colony, married to Varalakshmi ten years ago. She took up a job in Kuwait to support the family. Karunakar said that she has not been in touch with him for the past three months.

He locked himself in a room along with his son and threatened to commit suicide if she did not come back to India. He said he would set the house on fire by blasting the LPG cylinder. This sent the residents of the BSR colony into a tizzy. For about six hours, this drama continued and despite several entreaties, Karunakar refused to relent. However, the police finally persuaded him to call of the drama.
