Denied welfare pension, woman dies, another ties to end life

In a tragic incident, a woman died and another senior citizen tried to end her life when their names were removed from the list of pension beneficiaries.

Thanks to AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's Aadhar linked weeding out of the names of beneficiaries for old age pensions, several senior citizens have been deprived of their names.
Several elderly women have been staging protests and expressing their ire during “Janmabhoomi” programmes on the issue of denial of pensions.
75-year-old Chandramma, died at Gajjanapudi of Prattipadu mandal in East Godavari district. Recently, her name was removed from the beneficiary list. As her life become miserable without any support, she came to a village meeting where the officials enrolling the names. She fell down on the steps and lost consciousness. She died on her way to the hospital.
The villagers said she died of shock due to removal of her name from the list of beneficiaries.

In a similar incident, a 88-year-old Subbulu, received a shock of her life when she found her name missing from the list. She along with seven other women whose names were also missing attended the Janmabhoomi meeting to request the officials to include their names again. Subbulu fell at the feet of the officials and requested them. But her tears failed to move the officials. Dejected, she poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fir. She received severe burn injuries on her face and legs. She was later admitted to a government hospitals. Her condition is said to be critical.
