Father set daughter on fire, mother instead blames daughter

Unhappy over not having sons, a father in a fit of rage, threw kerosene and set his 10-year old girl on fire at Bhuchepalli in Kurnool district on Saturday.

According to reports, the victim, Bhagyalakshmi is the third daughter of Nagalakshmi and Tirupatayya. Nagalakshmi was pregnant yet again, and Tirupatayya, thinking that his wife will again beget a girl, took his anger out on his daughter, by charring her.
The victim, who sustained 90% burns, was rushed to a government hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
The accused, a daily labourer, fled from the scene soon after the incident, but police nabbed him.
Unperturbed by her husband's crime, Nagalakshmi refused to speak against her husband and instead blamed her daughter for the act. She said that Bhagyalakshi took this extreme step out of her own volition, and was not burnt by her father.
