Hyderabad: An event manager was arrested on Tuesday from Secunderabad for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman sometime three years ago after lacing a soft drink with sedatives.

The accused Sourav Gupta(23) had befriended the woman in November 2014 through a common friend and subsequently proposed her. However, the woman had rejected his proposal. Later, they met at a party where Gupta offered her some drink laced with sedative and after she became fell unconscious he allegedly raped her.

On the victim's pressure to marry her, Sourav took her to Goa and married secretly. After returning to Hyderabad she stayed with his family for sometime. She became pregnant but due to the ill treatment of Sourav and his family members, she underwent abortion in 2015. The woman later went to Dubai and joined in a telecom firm in 2016.

Sourav married another woman from Secunderabad sometime this year by concealing the fact that he was earlier married. In March 2017, the victim from Dubai saw Sourav's second wedding videos on Youtube. She realized that Sourav has duped another woman and lodged a complaint with Jeedimetla police through an email.

During the investigation, police called the victim to Hyderabad from Dubai and recorded her statement.

After gathering all the evidence, a case rape and cheating under relevant sections of IPC was registered against Gupta.
