CSK Fans Use IPL Matches To Highlight Tamil Issues

Tamil Nadu is gripped with Cauvery and Sterlite issues.

IPL 2018 is a major clock-stopper across the country. As it happens Tamil Nadu is gripped with Cauvery and Sterlite issues. While the IPL frenzy is reaching a feverish pitch, protestors have suddenly tagged the burning Cuavery issue on to it. Noted trade analyst, Ramesh Bala, posted a picture of a supporter at a CSK match holding a banner which reads “Ban Sterlite”.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings will battle it out with Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday at Chidambaram Stadium. This has made scores of CSK fans euphoric all of whom are waiting for the 'Men in Yellow' to watch Dhoni's men play on their home turf after a two-year suspension. However, with ongoing tensions in the state, the IPL organisers approached chief minister Edappadi to heighten the security measures for IPL matches.

Opposition DMK Working President M K Stalin had said the organisers of IPL matches should realise the issues faced by the people and act accordingly.

"We are not saying that they (matches) should not be held. The organisers should realise the problems of people and act accordingly," he had said. Fisheries Minister and senior AIADMK Leader D Jayakumar had said the BCCI would realise the situation in Tamil Nadu and decide whether to hold the matches or not. Seven IPL matches are scheduled to be held here between April 10 and May 20. With just about all the politicians fishing in IPL waters, the organisers face a new challenge with the Cauvery dispute being infused into the T-20 championship.
