Visaskhapatnam (Bheemili): A lady police constable Karanam Kumari (22) allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her rented home in Anandapuram in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. Her husband Mala Rajendra (27) was in Chandigarh at the time of the incident.

According to Bheemili CI Suraynarayana, Rajendra who hailed from Venakapalli village, Ranga Reddy district in Telangana and Kumari who was from Nagavaram village in Visakhaptanam met each other when they had joined the Indo-Tibetan Border Battalion in Pandalapaka in Viskahapatnam. In course of time, they fell in love and wanted to get married. This was met with opposition from both the families as they were from different castes.

Fearing for her life she forced Rajendra to marry her and they both got married in the Simhachalam temple four months ago and started staying in a rented place in Anandapuram .

They soon ended up having marital disputes and Kumari attempted suicide once and was counselled by the Battalion officials. After this incident they were not on speaking terms with each other. Depressed over her husband not being on friendly terms with her, she called Rajendra who was on official training in Chandigarh and informed him that she was committing suicide, but did not receive any response from his end. Subsequently, she called her parents and told them that she was committing suicide as she was cheated in life and she was depressed. Even before her parents could respond she hung up and committed suicide in her home.

Based on the call date records Police officials informed the Chandigarh police and had Rajendra arrested there. The body was sent for post mortem and a case was filed by the Bheemili police.
