Hyderabad: Unable to bear the death of his wife, a man attempted to take his life by hanging. He is now undergoing treatment at the Gandhi hospital in the city. The incident took place at Sai Nagar, Karmanghat in the early hours of Thursday under the Saroornagar police station limits.

According to the police, K Santosh is a native of Siddipet who works in TSRTC as a mechanic. Recently, he was posted to Jeedimetla Depot. He lived with his wife Rajani and two children.

On Wednesday evening, they returned from Siddipet. On Thursday at 5:30 pm, Santosh found that his wife Rajani was not in the room and it was bolted from the outside. Immediately, he alerted Rajani's elder brother Rakesh who came to the spot at 6 am along with his wife.

He broke the door open with the help of neighbours and found his two nephews at the door and Rajani was hanging to a fan. He also found Santhosh was hanging in his bedroom.

N.Ch Rangaswamy, the Saroornagar inspector said, "The couple would never fight with each other and never complained to the relatives about any issue. They seemed to be leading a happy life. After returning from Siddipet on Wednesday evening, Rajani hanged herself and Santosh attempted suicide.”

Santosh was sent to RTC hospital and then to Gandhi hospital where his condition is said to be critical. The children are with Rakesh who works in a fire department as a constable. Based on his complaint, the police filed a case under section 174 of CrPC and the investigation has started, the police said.

The police said "Santosh is being treated and has been kept in the ICU. He is not in a position to talk. We are probing the case by verifying the call data and find out what happened in Siddipet."
