Constable Runs With Live Bomb, Saves 400 School Children

Bhopal: In an act of exceptional bravery, a police constable saved lives of school kids by running away with a 10 kg bomb tucked in his arms.

The head constable who discovered a 10 kg unexploded artillery shell near a school in Chitora village of Sagar district, in Madhya Pradesh, saved lives of as many as 400 school kids. The constable identified as Abhishek Patel told media that his only objective was to take away the artillery as far from the children and residential areas. A 12-second video clip of the constable running with the bomb on his shoulder has gone viral.

According to a report, around 400 children were present in the school when the bomb was found on Friday morning after which police was called on the spot. A teacher reportedly said that a policeman saw the bomb and immediately asked us to end the school. “We asked the students to leave at once,” a teacher said.

It was head constable Patel who took the effort and picked up the bomb and went on to run 1 km. Even journalists were unaware of the incident and only one person could snap a quick video.

Patel said that a similar incident took place a few months ago when he was part of a police operation. Patel said that he learned that if the bomb would have exploded then it would have damaged a radius of 500 meters. The bomb is yet to be defused. The Army has been informed about the bomb.

Inspector General of Police Satish Saxena announced a reward for Patel for showing exemplary courage.
