Bank Officials Among 4 Held In Demonetization Case

New Delhi: Two bank officials, including an Assistant General Manger, and proprietors of two private firms have been arrested by the CBI in connection with a case of deposit of Rs 24.35 crore in cash post-demonetisation.

CBI sources said J L Bansal, AGM of Bank of India, Ghoddod Road Branch in Surat (Gujarat) and N L Gamit, the then Senior Manager of the bank, Maharshi Chokkas, proprietor of Maharshi Traders and Himanshu R Shah of Shah Maganlal Gulabchand Chokasi have been taken into custody.

Agency Spokesperson R K Gaur said a case was registered on December 29, 2016 against the four accused.

"It was alleged that the accused entered into criminal conspiracy and committed forgery in the bank account opening of a private firm and a cash deposit of Rs 24.35 crore was made in said account after November 8, 2016 by a Proprietor of a Surat-based private firm and the same was diverted to the accounts of co-accused by way of real-time gross settlement systems (RTGS) transfers," Gaur said.

He said searches were conducted at nine places, including Surat and Jaipur on January 2, which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
