Nandyal: The Nandyal by-poll campaign saw another attack by the Telugu Desam government on its opposition, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) when the houses of YSRCP councillors were searched by the police on Sunday night.

Police raided the homes of two councillors, Anil Raj of 21st ward and Murali of the 22nd ward on the allegation that they had hidden money to distribute during elections. The police resorted to lathicharge against the YSRCP leaders in Nandyal on Monday evening, which was strongly condemned by the YSRCP leaders.

Chandrababu Naidu's government has targeted the YSR Congress Party leaders in the Nandyal by- election where police resorted to lathicharge against the opposition leaders, alleged YSRCP’s nominee for the by-poll Silpa Mohan Reddy.

He alleged the ruling TDP government was threatening the YSR Congress leaders who did not join the TDP during election time. The government targeted YSR Congress leaders belonging to backward, scheduled castes and scheduled tribe communities and they were being intimidated, Silpa Mohan said and took strong exception for conducting searches at the residences of councillors - Subbaraidu, Murali and Amritraju. The TDP leaders also violated election code by distributing money and liquor to lure the voters, he said.
