AP purchasing power from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday said it has placed orders to buy 570 megawatt power from the firms in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to meet the deficit.

A press release issued by the AP Energy Department said, presently the demand supply gap is about 10 to 15 per cent and the state DISCOMs are supplying 125 MU against the demand of 142 MU.

To overcome power shortage to some extent, after bifurcation, APTRANSCO placed orders for purchase of 570 MW from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu generators and on an average state is getting around 300 MW (approximately 8 MU), the release said.

Besides this, AP is getting 800 MW as against 1,700 MW orders placed by combined state of Andhra Pradesh under short term purchases, it added.

Ajay Jain, in-charge secretary of Energy Dept has asked the officials to take steps to expedite renewable energy projects and ordered  APTRANSCO to coordinate and plan for setting up wind power projects to the tune of 3,000 MW within two years, the release said.
